The 2009 Stable of Stars competition kicked off with the annual draft night on Thursday September 11, at the Rising Sun Hotel in South Melbourne. Brian Toohey's kinder suprise egg came out first, giving him the top pick. Although unlike other years, there was no compulsory 3yo pick in the second round, giving the last player the first open pick. Despite this, Toohey put together an impressive stable, and will be at the forefront of the leaderboard, one would suspect.
With an injury cloud over a few boom horses, the players tread carefully, with Tuesday Joy and Black Caviar both going late. Past stars such as Maldivian, Zipping and Mentality were also way down the pecking order, as players snapped up rising stars Typhoon Tracy, O'Lohnro, Mic Mac and Heart of Dreams to name a few.
