Competition Rules

1. Draft Afternoon will be held on Sunday, September 5 at 1.00 p.m. at The Rising Sun Hotel, 2 Raglan Street, South Melbourne

2. The Order of the Draft will be drawn randomly from a ballot by the time-honoured Kinder Surprise Method.

3. The order originally drawn from the ballot will be hereafter referred to as the Order. If it is reversed, it will be referred to as the Reversed Order;

4. There will be ten rounds as follows:

Round 1 – Compulsory 3 year-old pick (according to the Order)
Round 2 – Compulsory 3 year-old pick (Reversed Order)
Round 3 – Open (Reversed Order)
Round 4 – Open (Order)
Round 5 – Open (Reversed Order)
Round 6 – Open (Order)
Round 7 – Open (Reversed Order)
Round 8 – Open (Order)
Round 9 – Open (Reversed Order)
Round 10 – Open (Order)

5. Players may select their stable of 10 horses with a budget of 50 points. It is not compulsory to pick a stable of 10 horses.

6. If a horse is not shown on any list, it may be taken for 3 points.

7. There will be no re-draws for retired or injured horses. If they are on the list they may be injured or retired unbeknownst to us when compiling the lists. It is therefore the players responsibility to check whether a horse will be running during the Spring.

8. If a 3 year-old appears on the older horses' list, its value on the 3 year-old list will take precedence.

9. Mid-Season Auction. A horse Auction will be conducted between Tuesday September 28 and Friday October 1.

The Auction will take place on the on-line Forum and all players will need to sign-up an account to participate (details of the website will be supplied on Draft day).

Bidding will begin at 9 AM on Tuesday and conclude at 12 NOON on Friday. Naturally, only bids which trump the current leading bid are acceptable. People may bid with the points they have accumulated to that point and are allowed to bid to overdraft.

The Auction will close at 4 PM on Thursday and the bids tallied. On the Friday, people may only bid for those horses upon which they have bid on the Thursday or before. In other words, you may not "come over the top" with a winning bid at 3:30 PM on Friday if you have not previously made a bid on that horse on Thursday or before.

Each person will only be able to claim their 3 highest winning bids. If they win other bids, those horses will be awarded to the second highest bidder (provided it is in their top 3 bids; if not, it goes to the third highest bidder, etc).

10. Mid-Season Draft. Between Tuesday 19 October and Thursday 21 October players will get the opportunity to sub-out up to two (2) horses from their stable and sub-in two (2) new horses that have been unclaimed to this point..

Each person will be allowed to make 3 requests in decreasing order of preference. If two people pick the same horse, the horse will be awarded to the person with lower total points at that time. Each player must also nominate which horses they wish to sub-out in order to draft the new horses.

This process will be carried out via email.

11. Entry into the competition is $100. Please bring this in cash to Draft Afternoon (or arrange to wire it to whoever is treasurer). Prizemoney will be paid to 1st , 2nd,3rd and last place. The dividends will depend on how many players we have.

Note: if people have not paid their entry two (2) weeks after Draft Day they will be removed from the competition and their horses will be removed from the game permanently.

A BBQ will be held at the conclusion of the competition on the banks of the Yarra. It is expected that the winner of the competition will supply a slab of premium beer. All persons who fail to win a race during the competition will also be expected to supply slabs.
