Gallica Wins By A Whisker
By Elliot Dean
Seven weeks ago, she was winning a maiden race at Bairnsdale, but on Wednesday, 3 year old filly Gallica was the Queen of Caulfield, taking out the $503,000 Group 1 Thousand Guineas (1600m).
Jockey Damian Oliver gave the horse a perfect trail, sitting one out and one back for the duration of the race, before peeling out and driving strongly past leader Cats Whisker to win by a length. The Mark Kavanagh trained Cats Whisker finished clear second with Sydney runner Glowlamp nosing out a number of other runners for third.
Gallica's win meant the hot partnership of Damian Oliver and Mick Price continued, with the pair now having combined for seven wins in recent times in under 20 starts.

"You simply wouldn’t get a better ride than that," Price said.
"All of her wins have been good and she’s a good, tough, clean winded filly".
It was trainer Mick Price's second Group 1 of the week, having won last Saturday's Toorak Handicap with Alamosa. It was also Damien Oliver's 4th 1000 Guineas victory.
Bought for $250,000 at the 2007 Magic Millions sale on the Gold Coast, the Redoute's Choice filly's value will now soar.
Gallica will definitely not be running in the Victoria Derby and is likely to be spelled.
