Turn of Events for Efficient

2007 Melbourne Cup winner Efficient has stormed back into favouritism for this years Cup with an impressive victory in the Group 1 Turnball Stakes at Flemington yesterday. Owner Lloyd Williams watched from his apartment as his godson, jockey Nick Hall, stormed down the outside aboard Efficient to rundown Predatory Pricer and take the $500,000 event.

It was Hall's first Group 1 victory and the young rising star was very thankful of his godfather. "He has always kicked my career along and I'm very grateful for that". Hall had a trio of wins for the day, also finding success on Light Vision in the Bart Cummings and All Silent in the Gilgai Stakes.

Efficient will head to the Cox Plate with his grand final to be on the first Tuesday of November, for which he is now the $7 outright favourite.

Predatory Pricer, who looked all but home in the straight, finished a solid second and is now one of the main players for the Caulfield Cup. Scenic Shot ran into third place at odds while Maldivian put in an eye catching fourth, as he travels nicely towards the Cox Plate.

Other Melbourne Cup chances Viewed and C'est La Guerre finished off well and give the impression they are building up steadily for the 3200m race. But they still have a lot of work to do if they want to catch Efficient!

In the Edward Manifold Stakes, Majestic Music missed the start but flew home to take the Group 2 fillies race for 3 year olds. She proved too good for Fomalite and Silent Surround and is now one of the main chances for the Oaks.

In the Superstable Stakes, Raheeb blew his rivals away and is now favourite for the Toorak Handicap in a couple of weeks time. He finished fifth in the race last year and is travelling a lot better this time round. All Silent was dominant winning first up in the Gilgai Stakes while Shamoline Warrior has given trainer Mark Kavanagh another Derby chance after Shamoline Warrior took out the UCI Stakes.

Next week we see the Group 1 Caulfield Guineas where Tickets is now a contender after his strong win in the Doncaster Stakes. However Denman and Trusting are still the short priced favourites in what is shaping up to be a very exciting day.
