Last years 3 year old star and Cox Plate winner So You Think has returned to the track in superior fashion, winning the Group 2 Memsie Stakes at Caulfield in impressive style. Not having raced since more than 9 months, the Bart Cummings-trained galloper was unwanted in betting, starting the race at $8.
But with jockey Steven Arnold on board for the first time, he sped away on the turn, with only runner up Whobegotyou staying with him. It was a very impressive first up performance for Whobe as well, while favourite Shoot Out had a solid run finishing third. These 3 are now the 3 favourites for the Cox Plate, with So You Think the $4.20 favourite to defend his title.
Peter Moody's Typhoon Tracy was one of the favourites with punters to win the Memsie, but didn't show her usual acceleration and could only finish fourth. The ground could be used as an excuse as the heavy going didn't suit all runners.
So You Think will head to the Dato Tan Chin Nam Stakes on September 11, a Group 2 race worth half a million dollars. His ultimate goal, being the Cox.
In the Group 3 McNeil Stakes, Sistine Angel snuck home against Servant and Intencion. Sistine Angel is now a strong chance in the Thousand Guineas betting with the other 2 place getters heading towards the Caulfield Guineas.
Rightfully Yours was too good for the in-form Stanzout in the Clamms Stakes while old timer Jungle Ruler relished the wet track to win the Boulevard Handicap.
Next week the races move to Flemington for the Makybe Diva Stakes, the first official race meet of the Spring. Look for Shocking, Metal Bender and Heart of Dreams to be prominent.
