This Season's Fashion Outlook
|
| |
| |
With the imminent return of the spring racing carnival, Melbourne needs to prepare for the fashion which has become as integral to the success of the racing events as the performances of the horses. Many of the most attractive and stylish women (and men) around the city will be feverishly planning the outfits and ensembles which will display the sense of style on which they pride themselves so highly.
The fashions I have seen over the years show a predictable but welcome trend towards the use of striking bright colours to use for the double purpose of awakening us from the slumber of a dull winter and warding off the rain on any given racing day to allow the outfits to be seen.
The garments I wear this year are going to reflect one basic principle, simplicity, as the complexity in my life increases, which can be measured by my dependence on my mobile phone (a device I abhorred and rejected until only recently), I feel that the outfits I wear should not put any more strain on my time than is necessary. The use of simplicity as a theme in fashion is as omnipresent as style as it should be.
Clothes should not be a hassle to wear but should be comfortable enough to let the personality of the wearer break free from the confines of the cloth and add to the beauty of any garment. After all if it was merely the outfit which attracted everyone’s attention then we could simply place store dummies in suitable attire at various strategic locations throughout the pavilion with very few people noticing the difference, and they may even be more interesting to talk to than some of the people I’ve met at the races over the last few years.
I’ve seen a number of pieces in the winter collections of this year that I thought would be perfect for spring and when the winter designs are as appropriate in the sun as most spring lines I get very excited about the prospects for the coming year. The european spring designs for this year have reflect an explosion of colour both bright and pale to satisfy the more daring and placate those who are addicted to black.
I think that wearing colours are underrated at night when the ubiquitous black cocktail dress is at it’s most popular. Those who feel the need to stand out should perhaps try brighter colours after dark when I guarantee most people will feel more comfortable blending into the crowd in darker shades.
