Bart's Wonderful Win at the Guineas!

Legendary trainer Bart Cummings has made it back to back Caufield Guineas wins after 3yo colt Wonderful World proved too good for its rivals on Saturday. It gave Cummings a record 5th Caufield Guineas and also provided jockey Luke Nolen with his maiden Group 1 victory.

Wonderful World started the race second favourite at $6.50, and sat just behind the speed before making his move at the turn and galloping home to win the $1 million race by 1 3/4 lengths.

The fast finishing Excites ($14) and short-priced favourite Court Command ($2.60) made up the placings, with David Hayes trained Churchill Downs back in fourth.

There were several other big races at Caufield on a very successful Guineas day.

The large crowd witnessed an upset in the Yalumba Stakes, with odds-on favourite El Segundo failing to win what everyone thought was a certainty.

The 6 year old Casual Pass settled just off the pace before running down front runner Pompeii Ruler just before the post. El Segundo looked the winner coming around the home turn but lacked his usual acceleration and finished back in third place.

In the Toorak Handicap, Red Dazzler broke through for Group 1 glory, and gave trainer Mick Price his only win of the day, after a second with Pompeii Ruler in the Yalumba Stakes. Red Dazzler was given a soft run by jockey Jim Cassidy, who stuck to the fence and found an opening around the home turn.

David Hayes trained favourite, Rewaaya, set a slow pace and led throughout, getting run down right near the post by a long head. Another Hayes horse, Niconera, finished a length further back.

Both Red Dazzler and stablemate Pompeii Ruler will look to run in the $2 million Cox Plate in 2 weeks time.
