The Age Caulfield Guineas Day

The first official day of the Caulfield Spring Racing Carnival. It features three Group One races including the Caulfield Guineas – arguably Victoria’s premier race for three-year-olds. What better way to entertain clients or staff than a Wednesday of Carnival racing at Caulfield? The fashions on this traditional middle day complement the highclass racing as Australia’s finest fillies do battle on the track.

Saturday, 18th October 2008

The climax of Caulfield’s Spring Racing Carnival, BMW Caulfield Cup Day showcases Caulfield at its very best. Featuring a comprehensive mix of first class racing, fashion and entertainment, this is one of the best days of racing throughout Victoria’s Spring Carnival each year.

It was a big day out for trainer Danny O'Brien on Saturday, training the Caulfield Cup quinella with his star horses Master O'Reilly and Duoro Valley. But the even bigger story of the day was the last minute scratching of short priced favourite Maldivian and second favourite Eskimo Queen, in the barriers.

  Serious Speed Wins 1000 Guineas
Serious Speed became the first late entry to win the 1000 Guineas, after taking out the $500,000 race on Wednesday against her more fancied competitors. The Leon Macdonald-trained fillie started at $16, but won by over 2 lengths from Extension of Time, with Antartic Miss holding on for third after leading most of the race.

  New Weekend Star Emerges
He hadn't even won a listed race before Saturday, but now Weekend Hussler is a Group 1 winner, dominating his rivals in the $1 million Caulfield Guineas. In just his fifth start, the Ross Mcdonald trained gelding rounded up the field at the 600m, and accelerated away for a comfortable 3 length win.

  Golden Day At The Valley
Moonee Valley racecourse welcomed in the first Group 1 of spring in exciting fashion, with Gold Edition winning the Manikato Stakes with sizzling speed. But it was the showdown between boom gallopers El Segundo and Haradasun in the Dato Tan Chin Nam Stakes that stole the show, in an epic battle that sets the scene in the build up to the Cox Plate.
